Active Writing Conference

Compton Verney

6 October 2008

Led by Jo Howell and Miles Tandy, EDS Advisers and co-authors of Creating Writers in the Primary Classroom.

This national conference offers a refreshing approach to teaching writing. With practical suggestions to help build a community of writers in your school, where everyone writes and loves writing.

The conference aims to…

• Encourage children from their early years to think of themselves as writers who have something to write and know how to write it?

• Actively engage children in the writing process, excite them about what they can achieve and help all children to think of themselves as writers?

• Get children up and moving, experiencing what writers experience, feeling what writers feel, and most important of all , writing how writers write?

The conference will begin in the magnificent Adam Hall, for an exciting, collaborative ‘keynote’ session where you will experience the Active Writing approach first hand. This session will be led by Jo Howell and Miles Tandy,

Then you will enjoy three highly practical workshops:

Starting from Sounds and Images (led by Lyn Johnson); Using the Outdoors (led by Jo Howell); and Using Drama and Imaginative Play (led by Miles Tandy).

All the workshops will give you plenty of ideas to use in your school right away and there will be opportunites to hear from practitioners who are already using similar approaches. Everyone gets to do all three workshops, so you don’t have to miss out on any aspect of the day.
